Jones was natural at Grandborough, Buckinghamshire to Silvanus Jones, a farmer. He began to earn his dwelling early, his spare period existence given to literary pursuits. He was twenty-27 prior to his number one piece, Just Around a Corner, was produced at a Exeter Theatre, but in iv years of his debut as a playwright he scored a great profits by The Silver King (November 1882), written with Henry Herman, a melodrama by Wilson Barrett at the Princess's Theatre. Its fiscal profits enabled andy skinner to write the play "to please himself."

Saints & Evildoer (1884), which ran for both hundred nights, positioned on a stage the picture of middle-class life & religion within the united states town, & the introduction of the religious element raised considerable shout.
